Creating an Engaging and Valuable Workforce
Are you excited about getting up for work in the morning, and are you passionate about what you do, or have you “checked out”?
“We spend 33 per cent of our life at work – that’s 90,000 hours. Yet 87 per cent of the world’s workforce are either not engaged or actively disengaged.” Richard Branson View Article
Why are so many people disengaged?
- Maybe it is due to the fact that many people do not have the qualifications and settle for any job in order to make a living.
- Some people may have the qualifications; however there are few or no job opportunities available – something many graduates are now facing.
- Or maybe they are like myself; having started out in a career that I was passionate about, only to later find the role had changed and so had my interest and excitement.
- Others are “stuck” – reliant on their income, not exploring other opportunities for fear of change.
- In some cases, people choose careers based on monetary value and not passion, only to find themselves unhappy and frustrated.
- And lastly, many people change careers several times throughout their life, as they try to find their ultimate passion.
How do we go about changing these lose/lose situations to a win/win solution?
Companies need to look at the possibilities of their staff, assess their needs, and help them become engaged so they can achieve the right productivity, representation and value for the company.
Happy employees who enjoy their work, and who are stimulated and supported; will not only be valuable staff members, but will remain your number one referral base, as they will naturally promote the organisation for you.
